CONGRATS TO THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES. WE GOIN TO THE WORLD SERIES. WE GOIN TO THE WORLD SERIES

(YEA IM FROM PHILLY)

For the first time in 15 years, the Philadelphia Phillies are the National League Champions. The fightin' Phils scored early against the Los Angeles Dodgers and never looked back, winning Game 5 of the National League Championship Series 5-1 Wednesday night.

They'll now go on to play the American League Champions, either the Tampa Bay Rays or the Boston Red Sox, in the World Series. Game 1 will be next Wednesday night.

After the game, the players moved their celebration from the field into the locker room, where they donned championship hats and t-shirts and showered each other with champagne as manager Charlie Manuel accepted the National League Championship trophy. "This is for the city of Philadelphia," Manuel said. "We have one more step, one big step. Then we're going to make a grand parade." For Manuel, the Phillies' victory is bittersweet. His mother passed away prior to the start of Game 2. He left Los Angeles in a private jet to attend her funeral.

In Philadelphia, thousands of fans crowded popular sports bars around the city to watch the game and then poured out into the streets to celebrate their team's victory over the Dodgers. Mayor Michael Nutter, wearing a Phillies jersey, threw his arms into the air as the team made the final out in the bottom of the 9th. Many fans still hope to erase the memory of the Phillies crushing loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1993 World Series.

For the record, Larry Bowa, the former Phillies manager and current 3rd base coach for the Dodgers, was quoted as saying before the start of the N.L.C.S. that the series winner would go on to win the World Series.- WFMZ.COM
