LETTER TO THEM RED STATERS

When I can't eloquently express myself, I look for others to do it for me. I believe the voice-over at the end of American History X echoed those same sentiments. Regardless, JJCM, the man who brought you NOBODY BELIEVED ME, provides some great commentary in a classic e-mail exchange with a virulent John McCain and Sarah Palin supporter.

First, the email from McCain/Palin:

I hope you're not drinking the cool aid! Palin is Commander-in-Chief of the only permanent National Guard unit on 24 hour duty the 49TH Missile Defense Unit in Alaska, responsible for the NORAD missile shield protecting the US and Canada. As such she is privy to top level intelligence on the level of the Secretary of Defense. So living near Russia she does have a clearer insight. In fact she has a security level that Obama would be denied because of his past associations with known terrorists and subversives..Obama is an empty suit at best and a Marxist at worst. In regard to our image, with whom? Iran? Venezuela? North Korea? As far as Europe goes, they have been a paper tiger throughout this whole world-wide terrorist threat and financial crisis. The rest of the world has been a socialist night-mare. We don't want that system here...we've become great militarily, economically, technologically and culturally..because of our system. The same system O'B wants to "change" into what? A third world country!

Now, JJCM with his reply:

Come on, do you really think that O'B will change it to the Socialist States of America? I do not think he is that bad. Even McCain said that he was a good person and a family man and a Christian when he shot down the supporter at a rally who thought O'Bama would make America an Islamic republic. I simply do not think this will be the case. I feel like it would be an injustice to my education which focused on economics and history. As governor of Alaska, Palin might well have had the opportunity to deal with Russia, but she never did deal with them, so I don't think the fact that she had a security clearance makes her more qualified.

Obama is a smart guy, I read his book "Dreams from my Father" when I was in college. I did not think that he would make such a fast political climb, but I believe he was pushed very quickly due to his array of assets. Namely being a great speaker, a guy who was able to come from humble beginning to climb to top of a very well-structured and difficult to enter hierarchy of US politics. Unless you are a Clinton, Bush, war hero, movie star, peanut farmer, you will have difficulty becoming President. It is a funny job for a funny individual. I do not think the best person in America to be president would ever become president because it seems like a job where the ends don't justify the means.

I like how you spell Obama's name with the O'B it makes me think that he is Irish.
What about Palin's inability to explain her "experience"? I haven't really heard much from her besides her "Pit bull with lipstick" gig, that is a worse image than Hillary. You can't compare Obama and Palin different types of leaders and different prospect in the Commander-in-Chief role.Mccain's economic advisors pale in comparison to Obama's, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina, give me a break. Compared to Buffett, Robert Rubin, Volcker, etc. they wouldn't be supporting a socialist although you may disagree.

If you think that he's a socialist becuase he wants to raise the top tax bracket from 35-39%, Clinton did the same thing and we saw huge job/economic growth.
And if you think he is a socialist because he said we have to "spread the wealth," what's wrong with using federal money to encourage a REAL middle class, one that can afford quality education, etc. Instead of bailing out a system that always wanted government to let it run freely, and be completely laissez-faire.

I remember you saying that there was too much regulation a few years ago when I was spending a lot of time in your office. Money has to be generated from somewhere. I haven't seen any true economic growth that has justified such inflation and overspeculation. Now, everyone is so worried because they know the money isn't going to appear out of nowhere. This federal bailout sealed the end of capitalism as we knew it for the past few decades. The system is flawed, unless Wall Street can generate $750 billion plus interest plus opportunity cost. I don't see this happening unless we create some breakthrough technology. Hopefully in the energy realm, that will make is more self sufficient and in turn improve our national security.


I still have hope in my country, but don't see a miracle cure.

Whatever happens God would look over us. Keep the faith.

Why Sarah Palin's Guilt By Association Is A Dangerous Game:

As you may have heard, with her new found confidence following the debate, Republican VP pick Sarah Palin went on the offensive against Barack Obama over the weekend.

At a rally in California, Palin accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists" because of his association with a former 1960s radical. The "terrorists" to whom she was referring was Chicago education professor William Ayers, a founder of the 60s radical leftist group the Weather Underground.

"I was reading today a copy of the New York Times," Palin said proudly (probably because she couldn't name any papers a week earlier). "And I was really interested to read in there about Barack Obama's friends from Chicago. Turns out one of his earliest supporters is a man who, according to the New York Times, was a domestic terrorist, that quote 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and the United States Capitol.'"

"This is not a man who sees America as you and I see America," Palin said. "We see America as a force for good in this world. We see America as a force for exceptionalism. Our opponents see America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who would bomb their own country."

But apparently Palin didn't get to the end of the story, which was an investigation into whether Obama had a relationship with Ayers. Because the same article concluded that the men were never close and that the Ayers' radical past was when Obama was just eight years old.

And guilt by association is a dangerous game. Palin's comments prompted the Associated Press to say that her attack was 'racially tinged': "Though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret," it said.

Not only that, her comments appear to have given Obama supporters the incentive to dig up dirt on John McCain. And what they claim to have found is that McCain has a history on a board of the US council for 'World Freedom', an ultra conservative, right wing group which was a "gathering of extremists racists and anti-semites."

Everyone has a history, but John McCain, with all his year's, will have a much longer one and the Republicans may have just opened a box they wish they had left alone.
