HITLER DECAPITATED!!
Man Rips Head From Hitler Wax Figure On First DayA visitor to Berlin's Madame Tussauds museum ripped the head off a controversial waxwork figure of Adolf Hitler on Saturday, in what was the opening day of the exhibit.
Soon after the museum opened, the 41-year-old German man, Frank L, went through two security guards, ran over to the Hitler wax figure and ripped of its head. A museum spokesman says the man told them he tore he head off in protest at the exhibit. He was promptly arrested on charges of damaging property but has since been released.
In his first interview since the incident, Frank says he is "not an extremist" but was particularly incensed that the Hitler waxwork was located so close to Berlin's Jewish Museum. He was in a "foul mood for days because of the Hitler figure." An eye witness says he screamed "no more war!" running towards the figure.
Camera surveillance was added to keep vandals away, but it did little to stop the incident. A spokesperson says the decision on whether or put the figure back on display will be made later in the week once they examine the extent of the damage.
When news of the idea first surfaced last month, it was heavily criticized but, at the the time, the museum said: "To ignore Hitler's role in this era would allow a strange gap to develop in the German and Berlin history that we show from chancellor Otto von Bismarck to the present day." We speculated that the figure could only lead to trouble if the exhibit didn't have enough security and that's precisely what happened.
Twenty workers are said to have used thousands of pictures from the German archives to create the waxwork, which took four months to make.
